comments: My sincere condolences to the O'Brien family.

Although no longer with us Dermot O'Brien is still alive in the hearts and minds of all those who witnessed his sporting prowess, his musical artistry and his personal magnetism and charm.

A wonderful singer and multi instrumentalist, Dermot was an exceptional artiste whose style of performance could simultaneously entertain all levels of musical discernment in an audience. As an accordionist Dermot was extraordinarily brilliant, always creative, always melodious, he played the whole spectrum from delicate finesse to swashbuckling flamboyance and his music flowed exqui****ly with tasteful embellishments and spontaneity captivating and inspiring generations of accordionists worldwide. His recordings showcased his tremendous versatility - he composed, arranged and performed with an expertise, craftsmanship and flair which confirmed his musical mastery. In my opinion he was truly gifted and possessed abilities which cannot be attained purely by practice or dedication - he was a natural talent and a musical genius and like the great composers and musicians of ages past, he will remain forever with us through his legacy of wonderful music and song.

Dermot O'Brien was a remarkable individual endowed with an abundance of diverse talents and his reputation is enhanced further by the fact that he was a 'gentleman' too. He has my undying admiration and respect, it has been an honour and privilege to have known him and my many memories of his 'magic' will continue to inspire and uplift me for as long as I exist.

I will miss him and I live in the hope of a 'reunion' someday.

I had the privilege of meeting Dermot at Perth Accordion and Fiddle Club back in the early seventies. He invited myself and the boys to join him for two gigs in Manchester. He was such an inspiration to me, in both his playing and his singing. I was honoured to share the stage with him in the Fort Royal Inn, near Ballymena on 12th October 2005. He was my accordion hero. Dermot , may you rest in peace, your music will always be with me.

comments: Your Comment I have so many happy memories associated with Dermot and his music. Many the time I danced to his music in the ballroom in Newcastle West, Co Limerick. My brother Francis(RIP) and I never wanted to miss his TV program. Though I've been in Canada for 40 years this August, I have stayed in touch with the accordion maestro though his records, tapes, and video As I have travelled around the Canadian prairies on my own I have listened to his music and singing. What a gifted individual not only in music but also in sports- two of my great passions.
My prayers for an appropriare heavenly spot for my musical idol.

When I was young his records were always on in my house, my mother being from near Ardee and I can still 'hear' the tunes, especially 'The Turfman from Ardee' with my mother singing along, even though it is nearly 40 years ago ! Thanks Dermot for the music and the memories and sincere condolences to your family.

comments: Dermot O'Brien is my all time favourite musician. I have many great memories of hearing Dermot play live from 1971 onwards. On top form Dermot was in a league of his own, an extremely inventive, adventurous accordionist who seldom played an arrangement the same way twice yet amazingly always remained musically coherent, inspired and melodious. Great singer, composer and arranger too.

Dermot was a huge inspiration to so many musicians. We are all going to miss him. We still have his great recordings

My sympathy to all the O'Brien family at the loss of his physical presence.
