Maryland Irish Fest
It is with the heaviest of hearts to let you know, that our friend Patsy Whelan passed away Sunday afternoon, 10/7/18.
A very long, long time friend of mine and most of the long time DC metro area Irish musicians, pub owners and fans. Patsy lost his fight to hang on to this life today. To say he was one of my favorite people that walked this earth, is an understatement! Patsy Whelan (from Dublin), played in the DC metro area for many, many years (from the group Caroline's Kind, Harvest Home back in the early Dubliner DC days, to his days of coming back down from Boston, MA, and playing for and with, his very good & long time friend at Nanny O'Brien's, Brian Gaffney). The last time I saw Patsy Whelan, was when he played a concert show at O'Connell's Irish Pub in Old Town, Alexandria, Va in 2009, with Finbar Furey and Brian Gaffney. What a fantastic night that was. My heart is very low as I type this message, and remember Patsy doing what he always did the best, right here at our favorite Irish pubs in the DC metro area. --Patty Simpson
